Sciacca is a fishing town situated on the famous archeological road between Selinunte and Agrigento in Sicily, is one of the oldest towns in the island.Thermal spa, fishing, scuba diving, snorkeling, biking, trekking. Boat trips can be taken from the harbour. The real heart of the town centre is steeped in history and ancient architecture of Moorish, and baroque style, ancient alleyways and courtyards. A labyrinth of houses and streets, some of which can be narrow enough to fit only a single person at a time. Throughout alleys and little squares of the port area and the town center there are many restaurants, which all serve delicious (sea-)food.
Approximate Distances: Palermo (~99 km), the Greek temple of Segesta (~90 Km), the Greek city of Selinunte and Eraclea Minoa with superb beaches (~35 Km), Agrigento (~60 Km), Trapani(~99 Km), Erice (~110 Km), the marine natural reserve of "Lo zingaro" (~95 Km) and the white sandy beach in San Vito Lo Capo (~95 Km), the ancient Phoenician city of Mozia (on a small island) (~85 Km) Further afield are Piazza armerina (200 km) The fabulous Roman mosaics of the Villa del Casale and Mount Etna (300 km), are well worth the journey. You can also take a short scenic drive to the nearby town of Caltabellotta (~20 km) an old village nestled in the mountains surrounding Sciacca at an altitude of 1,000 metres, the Matrice church, the Castello Mount and the Hermitage (13th century) with a stunning views over the coast and the valley for miles away.
