La Cueva came into existence by joining a ruined house,a very neglected chickenpen and a total ruin. We renovated everything with lots of dedication and love to the detail, trying to incorporate local materials like wood,stone, reeds from the river, esparto (local woven grass) and terracotta. The result are 2 holidayhomes, both very rustic, with lots of Moorish charm, but at the same time extremely comfortable with all the amenities.

La Cueva is situated in the biggest of the 3 Guajar villages, 20 mins from the coast and 1 hr from Granada. This is still a living white Andalusian village of mainly small farmers. Cool off in the Jacuzzi set into a cave with a waterfall,read a book in the pleasant patio or enjoy the magnificent views from the roof top terrace,where you have a choice of 2 shady pergolas. Or rock in one of the hammocks and let life go past. This place is as idyllic as it sounds,just lean back, relax and enjoy.

Approaching La Cueva you already feel the special flair. The whole property has got a flow, a well balanced colour combination, repeating decorations, cozy corners and lots of light. Entering from the alleyway you come into the patio with its 2 Moorish style sitting corners and lovely well scented plants, it is painted in a pleasant terracotta colour. The house consists of La Estrella and El Sol, from the patio some stairs lead up to the cave, into which we set a refreshing Jacuzzi with its waterfall, next to it we converted an old stable into another showerroom with toilet, sink and washing machine. A spiralstaircase leads up onto the roof terrace of 100m2 from where you will enjoy magnificent views over the whole village and surrounding mountains. Up here you find 2 shady pergolas with their sitting corners, deckchairs, sunumbrellas, hammocks and a BBQ.

Moorish style patio

The 3 Guajar-villages, of which Faragüit is the biggest, are nestled in a very fertile and green valley, surrounded by mountains. Sometimes the Olive-Orange-Avocado and Chirimoya plantations reach up to the top of these mountains. The Moors left behind the acequias (wateringchannels) that cris cross the valley and thanks to which it is so wonderfully fertile. These white Andalucian villages have actually been overlooked by tourism despite their proximity to the sea.

Down to the coast, the beach and the next golfcourse it is 20mins, to Granada 1hr.,to the skislopes 11/2 hrs. and to the Alpujarras 45mins. Faragüit offers everything you might need,a colourful weekly market on Saturdays, a bar/restaurant with good homecooking from the area, a bank/ATM, a few bakeries, supermarket, doctor, Pharamcy, besides traders that offer veggies, fruit and fresh fish from their cars. La Cueva is situated in a carfree alleyway and therefore very quiet. You can park as near as 200m away.

Directly from the house start short and also longer walks to explore the local mountains. A bit further on you will pass through a small gorge and then come to Guajar Alto, the smallest of the 3 Guajar villages. Wander along the different muletracks past and through meditarrenean Olive-Orange-Avocado and Chirimoyagroves. Enjoy the almond blossom that starts in February and succumb to the perfume of the orangeblossom (El Azahar) in March. Watch the farmers in the planting season or at harvest time. The nearest beach is 20 mins away and a little bit further you will find still rather untouched and romantic coves.

Granada with its famous Alhambra,its charming,Moorish Albayzin and its quaint old town is only 1 hr away. The cozy and original villages of the Alpujarra with its cristalclear streams,refreshing riverpools and the snow covered 3000m mountains always invite you to hike and explore and are only 45 mins away. Come, relax and enjoy!!

In the winter months you really are lost for choice. Or you go down to the empty beaches and stroll along the sea or you go to Granada to soak up some culture and do some shopping or you go up to the Sierra Nevada to go skiing. Actually you might do the lot in one single day!!! The ski area of the Siera Nevada is the most modern ski area in Spain and the one with the most sunhours in Eurpoe. Snow is guaranteed, it offers long and wide slopes (up to 86km!), very affordable prices and a very pleasant ambience a true international ski resort! Of course all equipment can be rented up in the resort.

Only 20 mins from us, down on the coast, we have a great golf course with a magnificent setting, between Motril and Salobreña. Golf with the sea in your back and the snowcovered 3000m mountains of the Sierra Nevada in front of you. In Salobeña another golfcourse will open soon and yet another halfway to Granada.
