15 Rue Maizières is part of an ancient building which was given to the Abbaye de Maizières in the 12th century and used as part of the abbey until the Revolution. The apartment is still reached by the 800 year old spiral stone staircase. The rather plain façade, the entrance and the staircase give little hint of the architectural gem hidden behind the solid oak front door on the second floor. The sensitive renovation combines original structural elements (massive oak beams, stone corbels, subtly-nuanced limestone walls) with harmonising finishes and carefully incorporated modern comforts. Painstaking attention has been given to the use of space, natural and artificial lighting and to equipment. The result is a beautiful, spacious and airy living space. Windows give views of Rue Maizières, of the roofscape, including the roofs of the Church of Notre Dame, and of the famous Cotes de Beaune vineyards.

The accommodation comprises: at first level: Large living space divided by a modern oak screen into sitting and living rooms - a fully fitted kitchen - a toilet and lobby with handbasin - an oak staircase to the second level - spacious landing with staircase to third level - 2 double bedrooms with king size beds - a fully fitted bathroom with large bath, shower and toilet. The apartment is centrally heated, has centralised ventilation and vacuum-cleaning systems, double -glazing, and electric shutters on the bedroom windows.

Equipment includes a dishwasher; washing machine/tumble dryer; oven; hob; microwave oven; steam oven; fridge and freezer; iron and ironing board; extractor hood ; hair-dryers etc. There is a basement for storing bicycles etc. Car Parking - a parking permit is provided for nearby on-street and covered off-street parking. Beaune is the centre of the Burgundy wine industry and there are endless opportunities for wine-tasting and wine tours. Nearby cycle hire shops can equip you for rides through the vineyards or you can tour them on foot. The area is rich in chateaux and Romanesque churches and within easy distance you can visit the Cathedrals of Autun and Dijon, Abbaye de Fontenay, Vezelay and Chalon-sur-Saone. There are markets in the region on nearly every day of the week, including an excellent one in Beaune itself and a large Sunday market in Chagny ( 14 kms away ). There are many excellent museums in the area and the Musée des Beaux Art in Dijon is one of the finest museums outside Paris. Dijon also boasts an Opera House and a fine concert auditorium. Beaune also has a lovely provincial theatre and there is usually something lively going on there. It also has a puppet theatre and every year hosts an international film festival, and a Baroque Music Festival, in July. French courses can be arranged.
