Les Eaux Tranquilles is situated at the northern end of the spectacular Gorge la Pierre-Lys (now officially protected as an area of outstanding beauty) some 320 metres above sea level on the edge of the pretty village of Belvianes et Cavirac which is some 200 metres below the winter snow line. This makes us ideally located for both summer and winter vacations. We are located midway between the cities of Carcassonne and Perpignan (40 and 50 minute drive respectively) both of which have airports serving the UK, Belgium and Ireland.

We have tried to create a warm and friendly environment in which you can unwind from the stress of every day life. Our private park provides a sanctuary for our guests where they can sit by the river or on our terrace and relax with a bottle of wine enhanced by the sound of the river Aude in the background. Throughout the summer we frequently have barbeques on the terrace in the warm Mediterranean evenings where our friends and guests can mingle and take in that wonderful ambiance of the Pyrenees mountains.

Our nearest town is Quillan which is 4km north of us on the D117. There are many restaurants and bars there as well as shops, banks, railway station (links to the main line station at Carcassonne with follow on connections to the rest of Europe), coach station (links to Carcassonne and Perpignan), tourist office (open all year) and main post office. During the summer there are many outside concerts in the two squares not to mention our international folk festival which visits for two weeks in July. The folk festival also visits Belvianes for a night and we also enjoy our own three day fete with live music and entertainment.

Vineyards are in abundance as are the 'Caves' where you can test and buy local wines. A short drive away is the town of Limoux renowned for its production of Blanquette, the first ever sparkling wine in France which predates champagne.

Ideally located for touring the Cathar country with it’s Cathar Castles and Chateau's, ancient gorges (our nearest, Pierre-Lys, is just two minutes away), 16th century villages, vineyards and more yet within easy reach of the coast (Narbonne and Perpignan) and ski resorts Font-Romeu (50min), Mijanes (27min), Les Angles (37min), Puyvalador (31min)) make this an ideal all year retreat. This particular area is renowned for its water activities such as white water rafting, kayaking, canoeing, canyoning and hydrospeed as well as walking, cycling, hiking, horse riding, quad bikes, fishing and of course sight seeing.

Our nearest major village is Quillan some four minutes away by car and is built on the side of the Colline de Vitrages (Vitrages Hill) at the foot of the Trois Quilles. There is a variety of shops, bars and restaurants located here. The village, which is dominated by the ruins of an imposing fortress, is on the banks of the Aude and enjoys a truly magnificent setting in the middle of a circle of mountains.

Situated in 25 km of Carcassonne, Limoux is the major town of the region with some 10,000 inhabitants. In the heart of "Cathar Country", Limoux, is perfectly in harmony with its mountain, its surrounding vineyards, the guarrigue, and the very close sea. Its Mediterranean climate (similar to Quillan) allows in a better way the city to express its quality of life emerging from its fabulous soil products.

La Cité of Carcassonne - just 40 minutes away, it's the real Disney Castle with a spire for every week of the year. We have more Castles and Chateau's than you can shake your fist at. Not to forget you are "Labyrinth" and "Da Vinci Code" country so you can go in search of the hidden treasure at Rennes-le-Chateau and unravel the ancient mystery of the Knights Templar treasure.

PERPIGNAN, is to the south, climate and geography alone would ensure a palpable Spanish influence. But more than this, a good part of it's population is of Spanish origin
