Le Pigeonnier has been renovated to a high standard and tastefully furnished throughout to provide quality accommodation for up to 6 people. The large south-facing terrace with garden furniture and BBQ adjoins a garden with trees. The beamed living/dining room, fully equipped kitchen and stone vaulted sitting room all have doors out onto the terrace.

Situated in an elevated position, on the edge of a hamlet, amongst vineyards and delightful countryside, Le Pigeonnier is quiet but not isolated. The house has superb views across the valley. Le Vert is the ideal peaceful location to enjoy a relaxing holiday in this beautiful region, and the perfect base for exploring the Lot.

There are three bedrooms on the first floor: Double with en-suite shower room, twin room, full-size bunk beds in tower, with separate bathroom and WC. All the rooms have lovely views across the valley. The oil-fired central heating is available for out-of-season lets, and there is a wood-burning stove in the living room. Satellite TV, Radio, DVD and unlimited Broadband free-of-charge. Telephone available if required.

The village of Sauzet, with a Restaurant and Bar, General Store and Boulangerie is just 3 kms away. We are in the heart of Cahors wine country, just south of the River and close to the charming market towns of Prayssac, Montcuq and Puy l'Eveque. Only 20 kms away is the ancient city of Cahors with its pavement cafes down the Boulevard and boat trips on the River.

There are many good restaurants and ferme-auberge in the area, and a Market for each day of the week. Horse-riding, cycling, canoeing and swimming at lakes with sandy beaches nearby, not forgetting the wine-tasting all around. Lovely walks from the property or follow marked paths within a few kilometres, which take you through the vineyards high up above the River Lot. Lots to see and do - or just relax in the beautiful surroundings.

We are in an elevated position in the heart of Cahors wine country, close to the River Lot. Le Vert is 3kms from the village of Sauzet where there is a Boulangerie, General Store, Restaurant & Bar, Post Office and Doctor. For more shops and the Farmers' Friday Market, Prayssac is just 20 minutes away, beside the River Lot. Cahors, only 15 miles to the east, is the historic capital of the Lot Departement and is famous for its fortified bridge, old City and Cathedral. Nearby is Puy l'Eveque, an attractive medieval town overlooking the Lot River. To the south, 10 minutes by car, is Montcuq, a little country town with a colourful Market on Sunday mornings.

La Garenne is an ideal base for exploring the Lot Valley. Horse riding, canoeing, swimming at lakes with sandy beaches are all within easy reach.

The old name of the Departement of the Lot was Quercy and the adjective 'Quercynoise' is still used today to describe the architecture, craftwork and other elements typical of the Lot. The Quercy Blanc is an area of spectacular scenery ranging from craggy gorges to the gentler undulating countryside of the south-west with rural market towns, peaceful valleys, quiet roads and an unhurried pace of life. At almost every bend you will find attractive stone houses, with the characteristic roman canal tiled roofs of the area. The countryside of the Lot is quiet and uncrowded.

For sightseers there is spectacular Rocamadour, the second most visited site in France, with its buildings clinging to the cliffside; Padirac, one of the largest chasms in Europe with its caves and subterranean boat trips; Pech-Merle's superb 20,000 year old cave paintings; the picturesque village of St Cirq Lapopie; the rather busy but nonetheless attractive riverside villages of Beynac, La Roque Gageac and Domme in the Dordogne; the bastide towns of Monflanquin, Monpazier and Villereal; the Chateau de Biron and the fortified Chateau de Bonaguil.

As well as sightseeing, there are plenty of other activities close at hand. The hilly landscape of the Lot lends itself to cycling, even if you do have to get off and push from time to time! There are many attractive local walks, including two 'Circuit' which pass through Le Vert, as well as the 'Grand Randonne 36' which travels up the Lot valley, sometimes following the crests of the hills, sometimes following the valley floor. The rural environment and exceptional local architecture add real pleasure to walking or cycling in the Lot. The river Lot has now been opened for navigation and it is possible to take boat trips between Luzech and St Cirq-Lapopie, passing through Cahors, and past the vineyards, chateaux and villages which lie in the valley. Canoes can also be hired from base nautique along the river.
